A lizard of the order Squamata, class Reptilia, family Lacertidae. It is widely distributed from central Europe to Siberia and northern Hokkaido. It is 18 cm long and is ovoviviparous, giving birth to 4-10 young between July and September, but in the Pyrenees region of southern Europe it lays eggs.
