Amagasaki Spinning, established in 1889, merged with Settsu Spinning in 1918 to become Dai Nippon Spinning, and in 1926 separated Nippon Rayon, changing its name to Nichibo in 1964. During this time, from the end of the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa period, the company expanded from cotton spinning to silk, wool, and staple fiber spinning, and after World War II, it expanded into vinylon. Nippon Rayon began producing nylon after the war. These two companies merged in 1969 to become Unitika. Since then, the company has become one of Japan's leading comprehensive textile companies, dealing in both natural and chemical fibers and weaving fabrics. Today, the company is also focusing on expanding its non-textile divisions, such as biodegradable plastics and health foods. Head office in Osaka, factories in Uji, Okazaki, and others. Capital in 2011 was 26.2 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 180.7 billion yen.
