A former town in Akumi County, in the eastern part of the Shonai Plain, in the northwest of Yamagata Prefecture. It is located along the Mogami River. The town's center is Matsumine, which developed as a castle town, and itabu (wheat gluten) sheets are manufactured here. Rice is the main crop, and the town also cultivates fruit trees, raises livestock, and does forestry. In November 2005, it was incorporated into Sakata City along with Hirata Town and Yahata Town in Akumi County. 42.92 km2 . Population: 5,580 (2003).

宮城県中部,鳴瀬川右岸の志田郡の旧町。主集落は城下町として発達。北部の低地では米を多産。東部に東北本線が通じる。2006年3月,古川市,志田郡三本木町,鹿島台町,玉造郡岩出山町,鳴子町,遠田郡田尻町と合併し市制,大崎市となる。30.10km2。7150人(2003)。
