Hungarian politician. Active in the Austro-Hungarian parliament as a radical democrat. Taking advantage of the March Revolution of 1848, he forced the central government to recognize Hungary's autonomy, organized an army, and declared independence in April 1849. He became the head of a provisional government, but was soon defeated by the Russian army and went into exile, traveling to Turkey and the United States and Britain. In London, he formed a friendship with the Italian Mazzini. In 1862, he proposed the idea of a Danube Federation of Hungary and neighboring nations. He died in Italy.

ハンガリーの政治家。急進的民主主義者としてオーストリア・ハンガリー議会で活躍。1848年の三月革命に乗じて中央政府にハンガリーの自治を認めさせ，軍を組織して1849年４月独立を宣言，臨時政府執政となったが間もなくロシア軍に敗れ亡命，トルコや英米に行き，ロンドンではイタリアのマッツィーニと親交を結ぶ。1862年にはハンガリーと隣接諸民族の〈ドナウ連邦〉構想を提起した。イタリアで客死。
