Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific - Asia Pacific Economic Commission

…United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) is a sub-organization of the Economic and Social Council, the main body of the United Nations. It is one of the regional economic commissions, and was established in March 1947. It was originally called the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE). It was renamed ESCAP in 1974 because the Pacific islands joined and because it placed emphasis on social development as well as economic issues.
