A mining city in Lower Saxony in north-central Germany. Population 44,300 (2000). Located at the northern foot of the Harz Mountains, lead, copper, zinc, silver, and gold have been mined, refined, and processed here since the 10th century. However, it is now famous as a historical city, and the city's medieval urban features remain, including medieval palaces, Romanesque and Gothic churches, town halls, half-timbered houses with slate roofs and walls, castle walls, and towers. It is also a base for tourists visiting the Harz Mountains.

World Heritage Registration

The Rammelsberg mines in the Harz Mountains, the city of Goslar with its many historical buildings, and its complex Upper Harz Irrigation System were registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1992, 2008, and 2010 as ``The Rammelsberg Mines, Historic Town of Goslar and the Upper Harz Irrigation System'' (World Cultural Heritage).

ドイツ中北部、ニーダーザクセン州の鉱業都市。人口4万4300（2000）。ハルツ山地の北麓(ほくろく)に位置し、10世紀以来、鉛、銅、亜鉛、銀、金などが採掘、精錬、加工される。しかし現在は歴史的都市として有名で、中世の宮殿、ロマネスクやゴシックの教会、市庁舎、粘板岩で屋根や壁を葺(ふ)いた木組みの民家、城壁や塔など、中世さながらの都市像が残っている。ハルツ山地への行楽客の拠点でもある。

世界遺産の登録

ハルツ山地のランメルスベルク鉱山と歴史的建造物が多く残る都市ゴスラー、およびその複雑なオーバーハルツ水利管理システムが1992年、2008年、2010年にユネスコ（国連教育科学文化機関）により「ランメルスベルク鉱山と古都ゴスラーとオーバーハルツ水利管理システム」として世界遺産の文化遺産に登録された（世界文化遺産）。
