Kozlov, Frol Romanovich
Born: August 18, 1908 in Roshchinino
[Died] January 30, 1965. Moscow Soviet politician. Graduated from Leningrad Polytechnic in 1936, joined the Communist Party the same year and became a metallurgist. In 1941 he became party secretary of a munitions factory, then worked at the Moscow City Party Committee, and in 1950 became first party secretary of Leningrad City. During the power struggle in 1957, he fully supported N. Khrushchev, and in the same year became a member of the Party Central Committee executive, in 1958 became Deputy Prime Minister, and in 1960 also served as Party Central Committee Secretary. In 1959 he met with US President D. Eisenhower. He was considered to be Khrushchev's successor, but resigned in November 1964 due to illness.

Kozlov, Peter Kuz'mich

Born: October 3, 1863, Smolensk, Dukhovshchina
Died: September 26, 1935. Petergof, near Leningrad. Soviet soldier and explorer. Initially, he followed N. Przhevalsky's Central Asian expeditions. From 1899 to 1901, he explored eastern Tibet via the Altai Mountains, the Gobi Desert, and the Qaidam Basin. From 1807 to 1909, he explored the Gobi Desert, and on the way back, he discovered the ruins of the abandoned Western Xia capital of Hara Khoto on the banks of the Etchina River, excavating it and bringing back many Western Xia documents, scriptures, and coins. From 1924 to 1925, he excavated a group of tombs of influential Xiongnu people at Noin-Ula in Outer Mongolia, and played a major role in elucidating the Xiongnu culture.

ソ連の政治家。 1936年レニングラード工業専門学校卒業,同年共産党に加入,冶金技師となった。 41年に軍需工場の党書記,次いで党モスクワ市委員会勤務,50年レニングラード市党第一書記に就任。 57年の権力闘争の際に N.フルシチョフを全面的に支持し,同年党中央委員会幹部会員,58年副首相になり,60年からは党中央委員会書記も兼任。 59年アメリカの D.アイゼンハワー大統領と会見。フルシチョフの後継者とみなされていたが,64年 11月病気を理由に辞任。

ソ連の軍人,探検家。初め N.プルジェワリスキーの中央アジア探検に従う。 1899~1901年にアルタイ山脈,ゴビ砂漠,ツァイダム盆地を経て東部チベットを調査。 07~09年にはゴビ砂漠を踏査し,帰途エチナ河畔で西夏の廃都ハラ・ホト遺跡を発見,発掘して多数の西夏語文書,経典,貨幣などをもたらした。 24~25年には外モンゴルのノイン・ウラで匈奴の有力者の墳墓群を発掘し,匈奴の文化の解明に大きな役割を果した。
