Born: January 26, 1582, Parma
Died November 30, 1647. Italian painter in Rome. He studied under Agostino Carracci and was influenced by the work of Correggio in the Cathedral of Parma. His murals for the dome of San Andrea della Valle in Rome (1621-25) are in the style of Correggio, depicting figures floating in the clouds. He was active in Naples from 1633 to 1646, and produced the murals for the dome of the Chapel of San Gennaro in the same cathedral (1641-46). He was known as a rival of Domenichino, and his style extended to southern Italy and Spain.

イタリアの画家。アゴスティーノ・カラッチに師事し，パルマの大聖堂のコレッジオの作品から影響を受けた。ローマのサン・アンドレア・デラ・バッレ聖堂ドームの壁画 (1621～25) は，コレッジオ風の雲に浮ぶ人物像を描いたもの。 1633～46年ナポリで活躍。同地の大聖堂のサン・ジェンナロ礼拝堂のドームの壁画 (41～46) を制作した。ドメニキーノの競争相手として知られ，その作風は南イタリア，スペインにまで及んでいる。
