A book on America written by HJ Laski, a British political scientist and theoretical leader of the Labour Party. Published in 1948. It is a classic of American studies that examines American society from the standpoint of a British socialist, criticizing the monopolies, class differentiation, ill effects of moneyism, the dominance of big business, and anti-communist tendencies that have accompanied the development of capitalism, and suggests a blueprint for reform for America, which now finds itself in a position of unprecedented international responsibility. Laski was a lecturer at Harvard University in his youth, and was well versed in America, as evidenced by his close friendship with Judge Holmes, and was also attached to the country.
