[Died] 1929. Italian playwright from Como. Son of E. Praga. Modeled on modern French drama, he used the verismo technique to skillfully satirize decadent bourgeois society. He also founded the Italian Association of Authors and managed the Manzoni Theatre in Milan. His representative works include the plays Le vergini (1889), La moglie ideale (90), L'amico (93), Il bell'Apollo (94), La porta chiusa (1905), a collection of short stories Anime nude (20), and a novel La biondina (1893).

[Died] December 26, 1875. Milan, Italy. Poet and painter. Born into a wealthy family, he showed early talent, but his life fell apart after his father's death, and he became addicted to alcohol, which hastened his death. His major works are Tavolozza (1862) and Penombre (64).
