Koshien

Japanese: 甲子園 - こうしえん
Koshien

This is a district in Nishinomiya City, southeastern Hyogo Prefecture. In 1922 (Taisho 11), Hanshin Electric Railway filled in the Eda River and Saru River downstream of the Muko River to develop an amusement park and residential area, and in 1924, Hanshin Koshien Stadium (approximately 40,000 square meters) was completed. The area was named after the year Kinoene (the year of the rat). In addition to the Hanshin Electric Railway Main Line, the Tokaido Main Line (JR Kobe Line), National Routes 2 and 43, and the Hanshin Expressway pass through the area. There used to be an amusement park called Hanshin Park, but it closed in 2003 (Heisei 15) and a large shopping facility has been built on the site.
