The character Ta can also be written as Tai, Dai, Otomi, Otomi, Oho, etc. According to the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, the ancestor was Emperor Jimmu's son, Kamuyaimimi-no-mikoto. The Ta clan was enshrined at Ta Shrine (Taza Mishiritohiko Shrine) in Otomi-go, Toichi-gun, Yamato Province (present-day Ta, Tawaramoto-cho, Ikoma-gun, Nara Prefecture), and it is thought that this place was their main residence. Ta Shrine is a shrine listed in the Shikinai-in (regular shrines), and already had many kanbe (shrines) by the mid-Nara period, making it an influential shrine.
