Aelia Galla Placidia

Japanese: ガラ・プラキディア(英語表記)Aelia Galla Placidia
Aelia Galla Placidia
Around 388 or 390-450
A Roman princess. Born to Theodosius I and Galla, the youngest daughter of Valentinian I, she was raised by Stilicho and his wife Serena after her father's death (395). In 408-409, she fell into the hands of the Visigoths, who were threatening Rome, and in August 410, after the Visigoths sacked the city, she was taken prisoner. In 414, she married Ataulf, king of the Visigoths, and is thought to have encouraged her husband to adopt a pro-Roman policy, but Ataulf was killed the following year. In 416, Placidia was returned to the Roman side by the Visigoths after the alliance was concluded. In the following year, 417, she remarried General Constantius at the command of her half-brother, Emperor Honorius, and gave birth to one daughter and one son (later Valentinian III). In 421, she persuaded her brother to make her husband co-emperor and herself the Augustan.
