A perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family that grows under or on the edges of deciduous broadleaf forests. It is also called yukiwarisou (snow-breaking grass) because it flowers in early spring. It has a creeping rhizome. The basal leaves overwinter and have long petioles. The leaf blade is triangular and shallowly divided into three lobes, with pointed tips and no sawtooth. The upper surface of the leaf often has whitish markings. In early spring, it produces a flower stalk 5-15 cm tall, with a single flower at the end. The stem leaves have three leaves, are whorled, not divided, have no sawtooth, and are somewhat pointed at the tip. The leaves and flower stalks have long white hairs, especially when young.
