The name of a ritual implement used in Buddhist ceremonies. There are three types. The first type is often called "koza" (lecture), and the second and third types are called "koza" (high seat). (1) A seat on which the lecturer (kouji) and reader (dokushi) sit at a Buddhist service (called "kosan") that focuses on the lecture on the contents of sutras and treatises. They are placed facing each other on the left and right of the front, with the lecturer sitting on the left and the reader on the right. In a Buddhist ceremony called "riyuugi," which corresponds to a qualification examination for scholarly monks, a candidate called "ritsushiya" sits in the lecturer's seat, but at this time the reader's seat is vacant.
