Gao Qifeng (English spelling)

Japanese: 高奇峰 - こうきほう（英語表記）Gāo Qí fēng

1889‐1933
A contemporary Chinese painter. His given name is Lu, his pen name is Qifeng, and his pen name is Tianfenglou. He is from Panyu, Guangdong Province. He is the younger brother of Gao Jianfu, and together with his brothers became representatives of the Lingnan school. At the age of 17, he followed his older brother to Japan to study Japanese painting, and after returning to China, he established the Shinbi Shokan in Shanghai and published pictorial journals. His art is characterized by his abundant talent and tireless efforts, as he explored the origins of the Six Laws and incorporated theories of color science and optics from Western painting into Chinese painting, resulting in a style of heavy brushwork and full of spirit. He lectured on industrial art at the Guangdong Technical College. [Endo Koichi]

中国，現代の画家。名は嵡，奇峰は字，号は天風楼。広東省番禺の人。高剣父の弟で兄弟そろって嶺南派の代表者となる。17歳のとき兄に従って日本に留学し日本の絵画を学んで帰国後，上海に審美書館をおこして画報を出版した。彼の芸術は豊かな才能にたゆまぬ努力を重ね，六法の源流を探求し，西洋画における色彩学と光学の理論を中国画に取り入れ，重厚な筆勢と気迫に満ちた作風であった。広東工業専門学校で工業美術を講義した。【遠藤光一】
