[1] 〘noun〙① A seat where the emperor or the shogun sits when receiving an audience. ※Dairishiki (833) Genshojugunshin Choga- shiki "The day before, a seat was set up in the Taigokuden hall, with two high seats laid out in a brocade style." ② A seat for guests of honor, people of high rank, or elderly people. " ③ A seat set up a step higher for preachers and monks to sit when giving a sermon. Also, the act of giving a sermon from such a seat. たか‐くら【高座】

〘名〙 周囲から一段高くなった座席。天皇の玉座や、寺院の仏像の前方両脇にあって儀式の際に僧侶の坐る高い座の類。こうざ。
