An extinct mammal related to the rhinoceros. It was distributed in North America and East Asia in the late Eocene Epoch of the Tertiary Period, and complete skeletons have been found as fossils in Utah and Mongolia. It is a large, sturdy rhinoceros with no horns, and is distinguished from other rhinoceros by its large incisors and canines. Its name Amynodon comes from the Greek amyno meaning "to defend" and odontos meaning "tooth." It is thought to have lived in swamps like the hippopotamus.
