(Named after the particularly frequent travel of women and children) In the Edo period, this was the common name for Honzaka-dori, a side road that branched off from Mitsuke-juku on the Tokaido, passing through Kiganoseki and Honzaka Pass before returning to Oyu-juku on the Tokaido. At the end of the Edo period, it is said that many people headed from Hamamatsu-juku, the post station after Mitsuke-juku, to Oyu and Yoshida-juku. It is said that women and children traveled frequently along this road because the enforcement at Kiganoseki was more lenient than at Arai-seki, and because they wanted to avoid the dangers of the Imakire ferry crossing, or because Arai-seki was also called Imakire-seki and the word Imakire was considered unlucky. It is often used simply to mean a side road or back road of the main road. *Goeki Benran "It is a detour to Arai-watashi and is also known as Hime-kaido."
