This flora group arose as the climate of the Cathaysia continent became drier, and its characteristic plants include the articulated plants Lobatannularia and Schizoneura , the seed ferns Gigantopteris, Callipteridium , Taeniopteris , and Protoblachnum , and the negelacean Tingia . In Japan, Gigantopteris is known from Takakurayama in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, and Cathaysiopteris from Maitani in Miyagi Prefecture. Gigantopteris has also been reported from Texas, USA, and it was thought to have migrated from East Asia to North America through the Bering Sea, but it has been found that the North American species is phylogenetically different from the East Asian species, making migration unnecessary, and the occurrence of similar plants on both continents is explained as parallel evolution due to the similarity of environments. …

…代表的な植物は現生の広葉樹の葉に似た単葉のギガントプテリスGigantopterisで，そのためギガントプテリス植物群とも呼ばれている。カタイシア大陸の気候の乾燥化にともなって生じた植物群で，特徴的なものとしては有節植物のLobatannularia,Schizoneura，シダ種子類のギガントプテリス類，Callipteridium,Taeniopteris,Protoblachnum，ネゲラシア類のTingiaなどがあり，日本からはギガントプテリスが福島県いわき市の高倉山から，カタイシオプテリスCathaysiopterisが宮城県の米谷（まいや）から知られている。ギガントプテリスがアメリカのテキサス州からも報告され，東アジアからベーリング海を通じて北アメリカに移動したと考えられていたが，北アメリカのものは東アジアのものとは系統的に異なることが判明し，移動は考える必要がなく，両大陸に類似の植物が産するのは環境の類似のためで平行進化として説明されるようになった。…
