Powerful family - Kenmon Seika

Japanese: 権門勢家 - けんもんせいか
Powerful family - Kenmon Seika
It means a powerful family or lineage. It can also be read as "kenmon seike." In Japanese history, the usage of "kenmon," "gonki," "tasenoke," etc. increased from around the end of the 9th century during the Heian period, and all of them refer to the families of the nobility and vassals of various temples and palaces, and those of fifth rank or higher. In the late Heian period, even the Fujiwara clan was differentiated into powerful and humble families according to their family status and rank. The regents and influential temples and shrines, who received manors with donated land, also played a part in the powerful families, and in the Middle Ages, the samurai became the new powerful families. → Powerful family system → Related topics Ho
