A cave in the village of the same name in the Corrèze department in central France. In 1908, three priests, A. Buissony, J. Buissony and L. Bardon, excavated the remains of an archaic human burial. Mousterian-type projectiles (Mousterian culture) and various scraping tools were excavated from the cultural layer containing a burial facility dug about 30 cm into the clay layer. However, no bone or horn tools were found. The remains were accompanied by bones of animals such as woolly rhinoceros, reindeer, bison and hyena, indicating a cold climate. The human remains are called La Chapelle-au-Saint Man or La Chapelle Man. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
