It was the first radio source discovered in Centaurus. It is one of the brightest radio sources in the southern sky. An explosion occurred in the central nucleus of the giant elliptical galaxy NGC5128, releasing a high-energy gas cloud, and it is thought that the radio waves come from that gas cloud. There is a weak radio source in the central nucleus of the galaxy, and a twin strong radio source about 7' away (about 30,000 light years away), and a further twin widely spread radio source about 3° away (600,000 light years away), creating a complex structure.

ケンタウルス座で第1番目に発見された電波源。南天でもっとも明るい電波源の一つ。巨大な楕円銀河NGC5128の中心核で爆発が起こり高エネルギーのガス雲が放出されており，そのガス雲からの電波と考えられる。銀河の中心核に弱い電波源があり，それをはさんで角度で約7′(距離約3万光年)離れた双対型の強い電波源があり，さらに約3゜(距離60万光年)離れた双対の大きく広がった電波源が存在するという複雑な構造をもっている。
