Scarabs were called kheperer in ancient Egyptian, and because of their ecology, they were thought to grow naturally from a dung ball that was likened to the sun. In addition, because the sound of the word kheper, which means "generation," "creation," and "regeneration," the shape of this insect also came to represent the god Kheperi, who was considered to be "one who is born by himself" and "the young sun rising to the heavens," and the scarab was considered sacred as a symbol of creation and resurrection. In ancient Egypt, scarab designs were used on seals, amulets, and ornaments.
