... In addition to the above, there are other fish commonly called "something catfish" in Japanese, such as the following. The European catfish Silurus glanis (English name European catfish, wels) is a large fish of the catfish family that can reach a total length of 3.3m (and a weight of over 250kg). It is similar to the Japanese catfish, but can be distinguished by the fact that it has six barbels (two on the upper jaw and four on the lower jaw) even as an adult.
