A constellation that appears only with its upper body on the southern horizon on a night in early June. In Japan, you can see almost its entire body near Okinawa. It is a centaur with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse, and its name is not a proper name, but refers to the whole race of half-man, half-horse. In the upper body is Omega Centauri, a bright globular star cluster that can be seen with the naked eye, with a brightness of about 4th magnitude. In the past, it was considered to be a single star, so it was given the Greek letter ω, which is used to name stars, but in reality it is a large group of stars located 17,000 light years away. In Tokyo, Omega Centauri is difficult to find because it only rises about 7 degrees above the horizon even when it rises due south. At the foot of the centaur is the star α (alpha), which is famous for being the closest star to the sun and has a magnitude of 0.1. It is 4.4 light years away and is most visible in spring from Guam and Hawaii.
