Naoyori Shinjo

Naoyori Shinjo
1538-1613 * A daimyo from the Sengoku to early Edo period.
Born in 1512. The eldest son of Shinjo Naomasa. Served Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Hideyori, and was based at Yamazaki Castle in Settsu, and later Takatsuki Castle. In the Battle of Sekigahara, he joined the Western Army and captured Ueno Castle in Iga. After the war, he was exiled to Aizu, but was pardoned in 1606, and given 30,300 koku of land in Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture), among other places, and became the first head of the Shinjo family (first lord) of Aso Domain. He died on December 19, 1612. He was 75 years old. He was commonly known as Shinzaburo.

天文(てんぶん)7年生まれ。新庄直昌の長男。豊臣秀吉,秀頼(ひでより)につかえ,摂津山崎城,のち高槻(たかつき)城による。関ケ原の戦いでは西軍にくわわり,伊賀(いが)上野城を攻略。戦後,会津(あいづ)に流されるが,慶長9年ゆるされ,常陸(ひたち)(茨城県)などに3万300石をあたえられ,麻生(あそう)藩主新庄家(第1次)初代となる。慶長17年12月19日死去。75歳。通称は新三郎。
