Born in 1512. The eldest son of Shinjo Naomasa. Served Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Hideyori, and was based at Yamazaki Castle in Settsu, and later Takatsuki Castle. In the Battle of Sekigahara, he joined the Western Army and captured Ueno Castle in Iga. After the war, he was exiled to Aizu, but was pardoned in 1606, and given 30,300 koku of land in Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture), among other places, and became the first head of the Shinjo family (first lord) of Aso Domain.
