Japanese: 玄海[町] - げんかい

An old town in Munakata County in northern Fukuoka Prefecture. The town is covered by wide hilly areas of Paleogene strata, and rice paddies are opened up in the lowlands of the Tsuri River, producing rice, wheat, fruit trees, and vegetables. It faces the Genkai Sea and includes Okinochi Island and Katsushima Island. Pufferfish and other fish are also caught here. Kounominato is a bathing beach, and Kanezaki is famous for its female divers. Hetsumiya Shrine of Munakata Taisha Shrine is located in Tajima. It belongs to the Genkai Quasi-National Park. It was merged with Munakata City in April 2003. 34.68 ^km2 . 9,559 people (2000).

A town in Higashi Matsuura County in northwestern Saga Prefecture. The western part faces Kariya Bay, which has excellent scenery. Behind it is a basalt plateau called Uwaba, where tobacco, lily root, and garlic are cultivated, and in recent years mandarin oranges have also been cultivated. Coastal fishing and sea bream and yellowtail farming are thriving. There is a Kyushu Electric Power nuclear power plant. 35.92 ^km2 . 6,379 people (2010).
