Jian'an literature (English: Jian'an literature)

Japanese: 建安文学 - けんあんぶんがく（英語表記）Jiàn ān wén xué

Jian'an is the era name of Emperor Xian, the last emperor of the Later Han dynasty, and covers the period from 196 to 220. In literary history, the literature from Jian'an to around the 7th year of the Taihe era under Emperor Ming Cao Rui (233) is called "Jian'an literature" and is considered one of the golden ages in literary history. This period roughly corresponds to the life of Cao Zhi (192-232), the representative of Jian'an literature. The Later Han Empire was maintained by the political and economic power of hereditary nobles, but it was on the verge of collapse due to power struggles between maternal relatives and eunuchs, and its lifeline was cut short by the Yellow Turban Rebellion and rivalry between warlords.

建安とは中国の後漢最後の皇帝献帝の年号で，196年から220年までの期間であるが，文学史的には，建安から明帝曹叡の太和7年(233)ころまでの文学を〈建安文学〉と呼び，文学史上の黄金期の一つに数える。この時期は，建安文学の代表者曹植(192‐232)の生涯にほぼ合致する。後漢帝国は世襲豪族の政治･経済権掌握によって維持されていたが，外戚と宦官の権力闘争によって崩壊におもむき，黄巾の反乱と軍閥の角逐によって，その命脈を絶たれた。
