An archipelago located about 1,000 km north-northeast of New Zealand's North Island. It has been part of New Zealand since 1887. The main island, Raoul Island (Sunday Island), is a volcanic island that houses a weather station and a radio base, and is inhabited by station staff. It covers an area of 33.5 km2 .
