The influence of jazz on the American music scene collectively known as Tin Pan Alley is immeasurable. In the mid-1940s, rhythm and blues emerged from Harlem, and instead of the sad songs of the past, it became a new form of popular music for black people, singing rhythmic, cynical songs about the present.
