Gable - Clark Gable

American film actor. Born in Ohio. After working in various jobs, he was an extra in a movie and on the stage before signing with MGM Pictures. He appeared in films such as "It Happened One Night" (1934, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor), "The Battle of the South Seas" (1935), "Gone with the Wind" (1939), and "Boom Town" (1940). His rugged appearance and sometimes arrogant attitude, bordering on brazen, made him popular, and he reigned as a representative star known as the "King of Hollywood." He died suddenly two weeks after the filming of "The Misfits" (released in 1961) finished.

アメリカの映画俳優。オハイオ州に生まれる。さまざまな仕事についたのち映画エキストラ、舞台を経てMGM映画と契約。『或(あ)る夜の出来事』（1934。アカデミー主演男優賞受賞）、『南海征服』（1935）、『風と共に去りぬ』（1939）、『ブーム・タウン』（1940）などに出演、たくましい風貌(ふうぼう)と、ときには厚かましいとまでいえる傲慢(ごうまん)な態度がかえって人気を集め、「ハリウッドのキング」とよばれる代表的なスターとして君臨した。『荒馬と女』（1961公開）撮影終了の2週間後に急死した。
