Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) was established in 1999 as a treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. It is a treaty that prohibits nuclear weapon states (states that possess nuclear weapons) from providing or assisting non-nuclear weapon states (states that do not possess nuclear weapons) with nuclear weapons, their materials, technology, etc., and prevents non-nuclear weapon states from developing, manufacturing, or possessing nuclear weapons, or receiving assistance for such purposes from nuclear weapon states.
