In Greek legend, he was the son of the god Hermes and the husband of Prokris, the daughter of Athenian king Erechtheus. He was kidnapped by the dawn goddess Eos as a lover, but he was so in love with his wife that the goddess sent him back to his homeland. On this occasion, he disguised himself and approached his wife with expensive gifts, testing her chastity. In anger, she left home, but the two eventually reconciled. Later, she became suspicious of her husband, who often went out hunting, and one day, when she followed him into the mountains, he mistook her for a beast hiding in the bushes and threw his spear at her, unwillingly losing his wife.
