A constellation located almost halfway between Cassiopeia and Polaris. It can be seen all year round in Japan, but it is only in autumn that it becomes easier to see as it rises high in the northern sky in the evenings. It is a pentagon or house-shaped string of five stars below the alpha star of 2.4 magnitude, and part of it is submerged in the Milky Way. In Greek mythology, it is said to represent the figure of Cepheus, the ancient king of Ethiopia, and is also the first character to appear in the constellation myths that unfold in the autumn night sky. Delta is known as a representative example of a "δ Cepheus type variable star" that regularly changes brightness from 3.5 magnitude to 4.4 magnitude with an exact period of 5 days, 8 hours, and 48 minutes. This type of star is important as a variable star that plays the role of a "lighthouse in the universe" because it is useful for measuring the distance of distant nebulae and other objects.
