Mishoryu - Mishoryu

Japanese:
Mishoryu - Mishoryu

A school of ikebana. It was founded in the early 19th century by Misousai Ippo. Ippo's family name was Yamamura and Sanseki. He was born in the Kanto region and traveled around the country before settling in Osaka, where he popularized the Misousai style. He later became blind and became known as a blind ikebana artist, writing books on ikebana theory such as "Honcho Ibana Hyakuren." The second generation Koho served at the Saga Imperial Palace, attained the rank of Hogen, and opened the Misousai style. The current head of the school is the 10th generation, Hihara Keiho.

The Misho-ryu school, which reached its peak during the Bunka and Bunsei eras (1804-1830), is characterized by its theory of "equal division of reality and fiction," and respects the birth of plants and trees, but instead of viewing nature as it is, it focuses on extracting the essence of nature that lies deep within, and it used the "theory of squares and circles" to theorize ikebana based on the three elements of heaven, earth, and man. Later, in the Taisho era, apart from the traditional kakuka style, modern styles of ikebana were adopted, but Nakayama Bunpo, the younger brother of the 8th headmaster Koho, was not satisfied with the old style of the Misho-ryu school, and left it to found the "Mishoryu Nakayama Bunpo Association" in 1954 (Showa 29). This internal conflict caused considerable unrest for the Misho-ryu school, but the traditional Misho-ryu school has maintained its foothold, and today it still plays an important role in the world of flower arrangement as a school with a national organization centered in the Kansai region.
