Ogasawara Sadayoshi - Ogasawara Sadayoshi

Japanese:
Ogasawara Sadayoshi - Ogasawara Sadayoshi

A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. He was the third son of Ogasawara Nagatoki, but became the legitimate heir. His mother was the daughter of Nishina Moriaki. Nagatoki was defeated by Takeda Shingen's invasion of Shinano, and in 1551 (Tenbun 20), both father and son fled to Uesugi Kenshin in Echigo Province. The following year, he went to Kyoto and approached the shogunate with the help of Miyoshi Nagayoshi, while Sadayoshi became a vassal of Ashikaga Yoshiaki. After Nagayoshi and Yoshiaki were defeated by Oda Nobunaga, he served Nobunaga and followed his policy towards the eastern provinces. After the Honnoji Incident in 1582 (Tensho 10), Sadayoshi invaded Shinano with the support of Tokugawa Ieyasu, recovered his former territory, entered Fukashi Castle, renamed Fukashi Matsumoto, and restored the Ogasawara clan. He later turned away from Ieyasu for a time, but when Ieyasu submitted to Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1586, he returned to Ieyasu by Hideyoshi's orders. In 1589, he handed over the family headship to his eldest son, Hidemasa, who married the daughter of Ieyasu's eldest son, Nobuyasu, in the same year, deepening his relationship with the Tokugawa clan. When Ieyasu was transferred to the Kanto region after the Siege of Odawara the following year, Hidemasa was given a fief of 30,000 koku in Koga, Shimousa Province, and Sadayoshi also moved there and died in 1595 (4th year of Bunroku).
