For example, the study of a behavior called "Naven" by the Iatmul people of New Guinea by British-born anthropologist and psychopathologist G. Bateson ("Naven: Problems raised by a composite diagram of a New Guinea tribal culture drawn from three perspectives" 1936) is an interesting example. Naven is a ritual of celebration for a young man who has completed his first job, and cross-dressing plays an important role in it.
