During the Kamakura period, this school was influential in the world of Buddhist statue sculptors as a legitimate lineage, centered around Nara. Since Kōkei, many sculptors have had the character "Kei" in their names, such as Unkei, Kaikei, and Tankei, and in later generations, this group has come to be known as the Kei school. After Tankei, there have been the following Buddhist sculptors: Unkei's second son, Kōun, who is said to have changed his name to Jokei; his third son, Kōben, who created the "Ryūtōki and Tentōki" statues at Kofuku-ji Temple; his fourth son, Kōkatsu, who created the "Amida Triad" statues at the Golden Hall of Hōryū-ji Temple, the "Kobo Daishi" statue at the north side of the Miedō Hall of To-ji Temple, and the "Kūya Shonin" statue at Rokuharamitsu-ji Temple; his fifth son, Unga; his sixth son, Unsuke; and Kōen, Kōun's son, who created the "Taisan-ō and Hatsue-ō" statues at Byakugō-ji Temple and the "Aizen Myōō" statue at Jingō-ji Temple. The son of Unsuke was Yasutoshi, who sculpted the Jikokuten statue at Eiko-ji Temple in Oita and the Four Attendants of Manjusri at Hannya-ji Temple in Nara. The son of Yasukatsu was Yasukiyo, who sculpted the Jizo Bodhisattva statue at Todai-ji Temple. Gyokai was a disciple of Kaikei and his teacher and sculpted the Shaka Nyorai statue at Daiho'on-ji Temple. Eikai sculpted the Jizo Bodhisattva statue in the lecture hall of Todai-ji Temple. Chokai sculpted the Kobo Daishi statue at Rokuharamitsu-ji Temple. These Buddhist sculptors continued to boast influence as orthodox Buddhist sculptors even after the En and In schools fell into decline, and continued to exist into the Edo period.
