Rārakūta Dynasty - Rāshtrakuta Dynasty (English spelling)

A dynasty that ruled in the Indian Deccan from the mid-8th century to the late 10th century. Around 753, Dantidurga, a general of the Chalukya dynasty, took the throne in place of the Chalukya dynasty, whose capital was in Badami, and ruled the Deccan from his capital in Mankhed near Hyderabad. The second emperor, Krishna (reigned 756-773), consolidated the kingdom's system, extended its influence to Mysore and Andhra, and built the Kailasanatha temple in Ellora. At that time, there were powerful kingdoms in the middle Ganges basin, the Pala dynasty in the lower Ganges basin, and the Pallava dynasty in the southern Deccan Peninsula, and this dynasty repeatedly fought against them. In particular, Dhruba and Govinda III conducted a large expedition to northern India and occupied the Pratihara dynasty's capital, Kannauj. However, they did not rule the distant lands they occupied for many years. From the second half of the 9th century, the dynasty gradually declined, being attacked from the east by the Chalukyas and from the south by the Cholas, and was destroyed in 973 by Taila of the Chalukyas, who were under its influence.
