A union label affixed to a product. It is one of the boycott tactics used by labor unions as a means of combat. When an employer refuses a union's demands, such as "recognizing the union as a negotiating partner" or "raising wage rates," it is a movement calling on workers to boycott the company's products or services. Campaigns often use the mass media. In the American labor union movement, where employers were strongly anti-union, boycott tactics were often used as a means of forcing employers to recognize unions.
