A town in Kaho District, central Fukuoka Prefecture. The Chikuho Main Line runs through the town, and the Sasaguri Line branches off here. The town developed as a mining town in the Chikuho coalfields from the mid-Meiji period onwards, but with the decline of the coal industry, all of the coal mines were closed after 1955.
