Noheji [town] - Noheji
A town on the southeast coast of Mutsu Bay in Kamikita District, Aomori Prefecture. During the Edo period, the main settlement was the port of Morioka Domain, and a base for maritime traffic with Osaka and Matsumae (Hokkaido). The Aoimori Railway runs through the town, and the Ominato Line branches off here. In summer, easterly winds called "yamase" blow, making conditions for rice cultivation poor. The fishing industry involves farming scallops, sea squirts, sea cucumbers, and herring. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 81.68 km2 . 14,314 people (2010).
