Loasa (English spelling)

Japanese: ロアサ(英語表記)Loasa
Loasa (English spelling)
It is an annual or perennial, sometimes woody plant of the Loasaceae family, with nettle-like stinging hairs on the plant body, which is stinging when touched. Some species are cultivated for decorative purposes because they produce large, unusual flowers, but they are not common in Japan. L. vulcanica André (illustration) is native to the mountains of Ecuador and Colombia, and is an upright semi-woody annual plant about 50 to 90 cm tall. The alternate leaves are stalked, the leaf blade is palmately divided into 5 to 3 lobes, and the leaflets have sharp, deep duplicate serrations.
