After returning to the country in 1861, he became a major musical spokesman for the Czech national movement, which was once again on the rise. He composed patriotic operas such as The Czech Brandenburgers (1863) and Dalibor (1867), which promoted nationalism, for the Provisional Theatre until the National Theatre for the Czechs was completed.
