Ruled line

Japanese:
Ruled line

It is a graph showing the price movements (footsteps) of stocks and commodities, and is also called a footstep chart. The Kei-sen is a stock price forecasting method that focuses solely on stock price movements, unlike other stock price analyses such as political and economic trends, industry analysis, and company analysis, which are factor analyses. It is used to predict future stock prices by extracting certain patterns from a large amount of data on past stock price fluctuations, applying them to current stock price movements to grasp the current market position, and comparing past market movement patterns with the current one.

Broadly speaking, there are two types: (1) those that graph stock prices over time (such as Bo-ashi, Dome-ashi, and Candle-ashi) and (2) those that do not necessarily graph stock prices over time (such as Neri-ashi, Shin-bi-ashi, and Kagi-ashi). (1) focuses on records, and depending on the period of interest, there are daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly charts. (2) only graphs movements above a certain price range, so it has a strong analytical element. Charts have a long history, originating from the rice market in the Edo period, and have since been improved and applied to stock price forecasts. There are many different methods, and they have not been established as a unified technique. It is difficult to find a perfect match between theoretical and actual stock price trends, which causes differences in fitting patterns and market forecasts. In the United States, they are called chart readings, and are a powerful method of stock price forecasting.
