…Sudden deaths in infants can be broadly divided into (1) cases where an infant suffers from some potentially fatal disease (such as congenital heart disease or a malformation) and the infant's condition suddenly worsens, and (2) cases where an infant who appears healthy, or an infant with a minor disease whose death was not expected at all, dies within a very short period of time. In many countries and Japan, sudden deaths (sudden deaths) in infants, particularly type (2), have become a problem, and are sometimes called sudden unexpected deaths (SUD). Most SUDs occur in infants under 6 months of age, and are particularly common in infants aged 1 to 4 months. …
