God of War - Ikusagami

A god who is said to answer prayers for victory in battles and long-lasting military fortunes. Before Amaterasu Omikami sent her grandson Ninigi no Mikoto down to Ashihara no Nakatsukuni, Takemikazuchi no Kami and Futsunushi no Kami went ahead and pacified the area. Kashima and Katori, which worshipped these gods, came to be worshiped as war gods. In addition, the Genji clan made Iwashimizu Hachiman their clan deity, and the Genji clans in various regions also worshiped Hachiman, so Hachiman became a war god. In addition, war god is a complimentary name for brave warriors who died in battle after the Meiji period.

戦勝や武運長久を祈願すると、聞き届けてくれるといわれる神。天照大神(あまてらすおおみかみ)が皇孫瓊瓊杵尊(ににぎのみこと)を、葦原中国(あしはらのなかつくに)に降(くだ)されるに先だち、武甕槌神(たけみかづちのかみ)と経津主神(ふつぬしのかみ)が先発して平定したという故事から、その神々を祀(まつ)った鹿島(かしま)、香取(かとり)が軍神として崇(あが)められるようになったという。また、源氏が石清水八幡(いわしみずはちまん)を氏神とし、各地の源氏も八幡神を祀ったところから、八幡神を軍神とする。別に軍神(ぐんしん)は明治以降の勇猛な戦死者の美称。
