"The Tale of the Great Peace of Onna-kusu"

...In the field of Joruri, the main popular pieces among works by Chikamatsu, such as "Yoshino no Miyako Onnakusunoki" at the Osaka Takemoto-za in 1710 (7th year of the Hoei era) and "Sagami Nyudo Senbiki no Inu" at the Takemoto-za before the autumn of 1714 (4th year of the Shotoku era), include "Otonomiya Asahi no Yoroi" at the Takemoto-za in February 1723 (8th year of the Kyoho era), "Kusunoki Mukashi Banashi" at the Takemoto-za in January 1846 (3rd year of the Enkyo era), "Ranjatai Nitta Keizu" at the Takemoto-za in February 1865 (2nd year of the Meiwa era), and "Shinrei Yaguchi no Watashi" at the Edo Gaiki-za in January 1870. On the other hand, in Kabuki, various works were performed, such as the second substitute Kyogen "Taiheiki" Ten-ban Zoku and the third substitute "Emperor Godaigo's Exile in Oki" at the Otowa Jirozaburo Theater in Osaka in January 1699 (Genroku 12), "Onna Kusu" at the Kameya Theater in Kyoto in March 1713, "Onna Kusu Taiheiki" at the Edo Nakamura Theater in November of the same year, and "Hachijin Taiheiki" at the same theater in November 1727. However, adaptations of the above-mentioned Joruri pieces were popular and were repeatedly performed. In addition, after the Meiji period, works that were later included in the New Kabuki Jyuhachiban, such as "Takatoki" ("The 9th Hojo Famous Family"), "Omori Hikoshichi" and "Onna Kusu", were created by Kawatake Mokuami and Fukuchi Ochi.
