Seibei Kashima

Japanese: 鹿島清兵衛 - かしま せいべえ
Seibei Kashima
1866-1924 A photographer and Noh performer from the Meiji to Taisho period.
He was born in 1866 as the second son of the Kashimaya sake brewery in Osaka, and was adopted by the Kashimaya family in Tokyo. He was known as a patron of the photography world, and even ran the Genrokukan photography studio. He was later expelled from the Kashima family and became a skilled Umewaka-style flute player under the stage name Miki Suketsuki. He died on August 6, 1924, at the age of 59.

慶応2年大坂の造り酒屋鹿島屋の次男に生まれ,東京の鹿島屋の養子となる。写真界のパトロンとして知られ,みずからも写真館玄鹿館をいとなんだ。のち鹿島家から除籍され,三木助月の芸名で梅若流笛方としてならした。大正13年8月6日死去。59歳。
