He was born in 1866 as the second son of the Kashimaya sake brewery in Osaka, and was adopted by the Kashimaya family in Tokyo. He was known as a patron of the photography world, and even ran the Genrokukan photography studio. He was later expelled from the Kashima family and became a skilled Umewaka-style flute player under the stage name Miki Suketsuki. He died on August 6, 1924, at the age of 59.
